Welcome
These are the webpages of the Computational Imaging & Data Analytics Group at the School of Engineering of the University of Edinburgh. The group is led by Prof Nick Polydorides, Chair of Computational Engineering.
Overview
Our current research interests are in computational modelling and imaging of dispersion processes, such as turbulent gas plumes and combustion. Central to this area is the field of inverse problems and nuemrical solutions of partial differential equations under parametric uncergtainty. In this context we are also exploring probabilistic numerics via the framework of randomised numerical linear algebra, to yeild faster approximate edge computing.
Currently we are working on:
Atmospheric gas dispertion imaging with optical backscattered data. This has applications in homeland security and grenhouse gas emission measurements.
Nonlinear thermodynamics for powder bed fusion additive manufacturing.
Randomised numerical linear algebra for real-time scientific simulation and image-based analytics. Applications in numerical computing for PDEs and inverse problems.
Interested in joining us?
We wellcome applications from skilled and motivated individuals with interests spanning the above areas. Please get in touch if you have a background in mathematical sciences (preferably an MSc) and would like to join our group as a PhD student.
